About Help One
Providing Help to Children When It’s Needed
Help One exists to ensure that every child has the same opportunities as their neighbors and friends. We hope to create a community in which children can seek support openly and confidently.
Supporting Thousands of Kids in the Saskatoon Community, One Help At a Time
Our Vision
We envision a world where every child, regardless of their socio-economic background, has the same opportunities as their peers. We believe that helping one child at a time can create a ripple effect of positive change, making the world better for everyone.
What is a Help?
A Help is a form of modest financial support that is not covered with traditional forms of supports and grants.
Helps can mean a lot of things and we want to keep it that way.
From school sport fees to art supplies for class, we do our best to make sure every kid can stay involved.
Our Mission
To Give Hope.
We work to ensure no child feels left out due to lack of resources, empowering children to participate fully in school and community activities without feeling ashamed or embarrassed.
We aim to create a community where kids look out for one another. By encouraging empathy and mutual support, we establish an environment in which every child can thrive.
Help One Values
We believe in doing what is right — all the time, even when it’s not easy or convenient.
Our commitment to integrity means we act with honesty and transparency in all our interactions. We uphold the highest ethical standards, ensuring our actions are driven by a genuine desire to make a positive impact on the lives of children in need.
Honesty is essential for building trust with the children, families, and the donors we serve. We always aim for open and truthful communication.
Our commitment to honesty ensures that every dollar donated goes directly to helping children, without hidden costs or misleading information.
Every child deserves to be included, regardless of their background, school, or circumstances. No matter the circumstance, every child is a child, and deserves equal opportunities.
This inclusive approach creates a strong sense of belonging and community, helping all children feel valued and supported.
We believe in fostering a community where kids look out for one another, encouraging empathy and mutual support.
By providing support discreetly and respectfully, we ensure that children can seek assistance without feeling embarrassed or ashamed.
This empathetic approach not only helps those in need but also teaches children the importance of compassion and community.
We are committed to making a real and lasting impact in the community.
Our goal is to remove financial barriers that prevent children from fully participating in school and community activities.
By addressing these needs, we help children build self-esteem, develop skills, and achieve their potential — creating a brighter future for themselves and their community.
Our actions are guided by strong moral principles and a deep sense of responsibility. We believe in the power of character to inspire and lead, and we strive to be a role model for the values we promote.
By consistently demonstrating trustworthiness and integrity, we aim to build lasting relationships and make a meaningful difference in the lives of children.
Help One Origin Story
Help One began more than 13 years ago with a simple mission: to provide immediate financial assistance to children in need, ensuring they have the same opportunities as their peers.
The initiative was founded by Bruce Rempel, who was deeply moved by the struggles of children in his community. Bruce started by giving money to individuals at bus stops and on the streets, along with business cards that read, “You just received a random act of kindness. Please pay it forward.” This grassroots effort marked the beginning of Help One’s journey.
Creating High School Dignity Funds
The next major step forward came at Bedford Road High School in Saskatoon, where Bruce and his family sponsored holiday turkey lunches and created the “Dignity Fund of Bedford.” This fund was designed to provide immediate cash for essential needs like socks, school fees, sports equipment, and warm clothing.
The initiative quickly gained traction, and these initial efforts expanded to other neighborhood high schools, establishing dignity funds to provide further support across the city of Saskatoon.
Community Focused
Help One’s focus is on children and teens who face unique challenges and obstacles because of their financial situation.
By working closely with teachers, counselors, social workers, coaches, and family friends, Help One ensures that each request is met with dignity and respect.
These mentors and advisors play a crucial role in recognizing the potential of each child who needs assistance and verifying that resources aren’t available elsewhere.
Bruce Rempel, Founder
Bruce's personal philosophy — "When you’re making a living in your community, it’s not right to not give back to your community." — encapsulates the culture of Help One. This principle has guided the company's actions and inspired its charitable initiatives, ensuring that giving back remains an integral part of its operations.
